In Western Australia, we have a wealth of world-class wine right on our doorstep and UnWined does a great job of profiling our state’s bounty, for metropolitan wine lovers. Bringing the south west to the city: for a new, boutique label like Below & Above, this event was a must!
This year we’ve approached wine events with two objectives: to introduce our wine to new audiences, and see what people really think! So, UnWined was an exciting opportunity for us to mingle with some fresh and eager Perth-based consumers.
While we were a little unlucky with the weather on the first day, the crowds didn’t disappoint with around 3,000 in attendance across the two-day event. While guests were spoiled for choice with wine, beer and food vendors galore; punters were largely serious and enthusiastic about their WA wine. Music to our ears!
The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive:
“First vintage? Wow!”
“If this is your first vintage, I can’t wait to see what you guys can do on your second and third!”
Parallels to Burgundy Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were also not lost on quite a few astute guests who were quick to comment: “making only a Chardonnay and Pinot just like Burgundy. Very clever!”
Our 2014 Chardonnay was a crowd pleaser, generating return tastings and purchases; and many guests were blown away by our Pinot Noir, some even deeming it “best Pinot of the day”.
The best part about the UnWined crowd was they were open to learning about our wine, methods and brand. It is always heart-warming to see how readily consumers connect with our story, and it gives us confidence we are moving in the right direction.
